Peggy Audoux Obituary

Margaret Ann (Peggy) Audoux

Sydney Mines

On the morning of Sunday, April 3, 2022, with the beautiful sunshine streaming into her room, and her loving children holding her, Peggy gently and peacefully ended her earthly life and then began her new journey.

Born in Sydney Mines on November 14, 1933, she was the 5th of eleven children born to the late Robert B. and Margaret Ann (MacKay) Smith.

In her younger years, she worked at Johnny (Fox) Macdonald’s grocery store on Convent Street in Sydney Mines, and also at Thompson & Sutherland’s in Sydney Mines. When she married the love of her life, Lauchie (Bud) Audoux, she remained at home to raise their four children. In later years, she loved to travel with her daughter Kathy around the world on many adventures. She visited the British Isles several times; Norway, Sweden and Denmark; Holland, Germany, Austria, France and Italy on the European Continent. She also enjoyed many trips to New York state to visit her sister, and also enjoyed traveling to the west coast of the US, and also the Southern states of the US.

When she was younger, she was a member of the Salvation Army Home League, where she did many fancy work projects. She embroidered many pillow cases and tablecloths to be sold at the annual tea and sale for the Home League. She enjoyed the time she spent with the ladies of this group. In recent years she enjoyed going to the Adult Day Program at Harbour View Hospital and made many friends there. Becoming a grandmother late in life was a highlight that she thought she would never live to see. She was so happy to be blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Kate and Lacey Lynn. Peggy loved her church and attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church until physical limitations prevented her from attending regularly.

Peggy is survived by her children who adored her; daughter Kathy (Sydney Mines), sons Bobby Joe (Doreen) and their daughter Kate (Lower Sackville), john (Tanya) and their daughter Lacey Lynn (Sydney Mines), and Denis (Bedford). Also surviving are her sisters Lillian McPhee (British Columbia) and Janet Smith (North Sydney). Peggy is also survived by her sister-in-law June Smith (Kingston, NS). Many nieces and nephews are also left to mourn her loss.

Sadly, on July 26, 2001, she was predeceased by her loving husband Lauchlin (Bud) Audoux. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by brothers James, bobby, John, Peter and Tom, sisters Catherine Annie (in infancy), Annie Jane (in childhood), and Kay Hebert. Peggy was also predeceased by her in-laws that she dearly loved; Cecilia (Audoux) & Les Toth; Susan (Audoux) & Shirley Scott; Denis Hebert; Johnny McPhee and Libby Smith.
