Peter Thomson

Peter passed away on September 19, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after battling a series of health issues.

Peter was born in Sydney Mines on July 20,1966 and worked for a number of years in Ontario. He returned home and continued his work life with Magna Industries until suffering a workplace injury.

Peter was an expert at fixing electronics and loved sports, especially hockey and his beloved Maple Leaf’s. He was known for his ability to access hockey jerseys for many fans and often donated team jerseys to local organizations and schools to assist with fundraisers.

Peter fulfilled the roles of mother and father to his 3 daughters over the last 7 years. He was always home waiting for them at the end of their school day with a home cooked meal. Spaghetti and beef stew were his specialties.

He is survived by his daughters Lindsay, Emma and Abby. “Poppy Peter” will be missed by Lindsay’s children Landon and Ava. He is also survived by his loving mother Violet, and his siblings Paul, Janet, Kathy, Karen and Ken, special friend Tyler and many nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by his mother-in-law Eileen MacKinnon and her husband Heck Lewis, sister-in-law Sheila and father-in-law Mort Mackinnon.

Peter was predeceased by his spouse Morley MacKinnon in January 2015, his father James “Bud” Thomson in May 2020 and brother Jimmy in infancy.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Cape Breton Regional ICU.  Thank you to the nurses, staff and doctors of 5 East, Northside General who have all provided exceptional care to Peter over the course of his illness. We also recognize the assistance of the paramedics and EHS staff.
