It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Raymond Boutilier, announce his passing on February 26th at the Hospice Center in Sydney, surrounded by loved ones.
Ray was born in England and came to Nova Scotia in 1946 via Pier 21 in Halifax. His parents, Joseph and Pamela Boutilier, quickly made Alder Point their home, where Raymond continued to spend most of his life.
At a very young age, Ray began work in the Crock pits. From there, he made his way to Ontario, where he spent many years sailing on the Great Lakes, which is where he found his love for the water. Ray later moved back home and began his lobster fishing career and trap-building business.
Ray, along with his loving wife Merle, built their business together and even fished side by side until they retired.
In retirement, Ray could often be found at Tim Hortons, chatting with his many friends or visiting his family. If there was a game of cards, you could always bet that Ray would be there.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Merle Boutilier; sisters Carol (Murdock), Sandra (Terry), Joan (Paul), Carinia (Joe); brothers Michael (Susan), Johnny (Ann), Brian (Noel), Martin; many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and his dear friend Roy, whom he thought the world of.
He was predeceased by his sisters Ann Marie and Kathy.
Special thanks to all the staff at the Cancer Center, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the Hospice Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church Bras d'Or.
