JESSOME, Raymond “Barry" - Georges River
Raymond BARRY Jessome, affectionately known as "Poppy" passed away peacefully June 20th, 2025,
at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Our dad lived a wonderful life. He was
born August 12th, 1934, in Mill Creek to loving parents, Edward and Cassie Jessome.
He was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St Joseph’s Parish Bras d'Or. A hardworking man,
dedicated to his family, he was someone we could always count on, and provided the best advice.
Because of him and the love he gave us, we are better people.
In his early years, dad worked on the lake boats. He then worked for many years in the coal mines until
his retirement.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Peter)
Flewwelling, Paula (Shane) MacRae and Ann (Robb) Lidstone; his sons Adam (Paula) and Michael
(Karen); daughter-in-law Gail; his grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly and was very proud: Krystle,
Adam, Kyla, Kelli, Nicole, Matthew, Barry, Victoria, Rebecca, Logan, and Daniela; great-grandsons Cyril
and Will and a great-grandchild due in September; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Delores; his son Raymond;
grandchildren James, Job, Gabriel and Dominique; his sisters, Lynn, Millie, Pat, Peggy, Josephine,
Agnes and Claire; his brothers, Lonnie, Don, Dan, Sandy and Gus; mother and father-in-law Daniel and
Evelyn (Gardiner) MacMullin.
A heartfelt thank you to the Cape Breton County Homemakers and the VON for the care they
provided to our dad. Thank you to Dr. Ignacio and Dr. Wawer as well as the wonderful nurses and staff
on 4 West of the Northside General Hospital for the kindness and exceptional care given to our dad.
Also, thank you to Dr. Stephanie Langley for the care she provided to our dad for many years. Thank you
also to the CBRH Cardiology Team, and the Heart Function Clinic.
There is no visitation as per dad’s wishes. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will take place on
Thursday 26 June 2025 @ 10:30, at St. Joseph’s Church in Bras d’Or, with Fr. Danny MacLennan
officiating. A reception will follow in the Bras d’Or Hall.
