With broken hearts we, the family of Richard (Dick) Winstanley regret to announce the passing of our dad at the Northside General Hospital at the age of 93. The son of the late Richard and Margaret (Vickers) Winstanley. He was the last surviving member of his family.
He was married to his wife and best friend Shirley (MacIntosh) Winstanley for 66 years. Richard spent 37 of his working years as a coal miner. In retirement, Richard loved playing darts or bowling with his family and close friends. An avid sports fan, he loved following all things Toronto and loved watching his Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, even if they didn’t win.
Richard is survived by his son David, daughters Denise and Margie (Michael), and grandchildren Jeff (Julie), Richard (Brittany), Neil (Kayla), and Patrice. As well as his great-grandchildren Payton, Clara, Quincy, Bentley, Eliviah, Eli, Eva, Nyx, Juliana, Isabella, and Marley, he loved them all with his whole heart. Also left to mourn this loss are sister-in-law Drue Hall and Millie Winstanley.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife Shirley, daughter Clara, and brothers Eddie (Anita), Jack (Millie), Robert (Margaret), James, Jimmy (Ann) Thomas, and Richard (at infancy). Sisters Lillian (Doug), and Vera (Gordon). Mother and father-in-law Alex and Clara MacIntosh and brother-in-law John (Jean).
The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer for his care over the years and the staff at Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospital for the outstanding care they had given our father.
A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 20, with the family receiving visitors from 10-11 am, and a funeral service beginning at 11, officiated by Deacon David Lewis, conducted by JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mine, NS, all are welcome to attend.
