It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita May (Patterson) Eveleigh
of Sydney Mines, who died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit on September 2, 2025.
Rita was born in North Sydney on January 12, 1948, to Gordon and Caroline (Pyke) Patterson and was married to her beloved husband, Walter, for 59 years.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her first child, Adam; her brother, Roy; nephew, John Patterson; parents-in-law, Janet and Alex Eveleigh; sister-in-law, Janet Hart; and brothers-in-law, Brian MacLean and Larry Hart.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; children Karen Tobin and David (Arlene); grandchildren Taylor (Randy MacNeil), Holly, Erica, Carly, and Ashlynn. Also mourning are her sisters-in-law, Jean Mountney, Marilyn MacLean, Darlene Eveleigh, Nancy Keenan, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members to whom she was dearly beloved.
Arrangements have been entrusted to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Shoppers Drug Mart North Sydney, Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department, paramedics, and the doctors and nurses of the CBRH ER and Palliative Care unit.
