Robert Ernest Robertson

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we, the family of Robert Ernest Robertson, announce his passing on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Hospice Cape Breton after a short and difficult battle with cancer at the age of 68. The eldest of four siblings born into a loving, Christian family on June 14, 1955, and raised in Sydney Mines, Robert was a most loving, proud, and caring father, brother, uncle, and partner. He is predeceased by his father, Robert "Bobby" Robertson (2011). Robert is survived by his adoring mother, Yvonne (Layton) Robertson; son, Robert David; daughter, Margaret Lee Ann; and by the mother of his children, Wanda MacDonald, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Robertson of Waverley, NS; sister, Dianne (Bob) Phillips of Whitby, ON; and sister, Heather Toomey of Duncan, BC. Robert is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews and 7 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Robert worked for 22 years as an auto-tech at Gus Brown Chev/Olds in Whitby, ON. For the past 12 years, he worked as a professional long-haul truck driver- a lifelong dream that led to a fulfilling career and the connection to many new colleagues and friends. Robert had a lifelong passion for cars, cooking and good food, classic rock, and playing pool. He loved to laugh, tell detailed stories and had a remarkable sense of humor, which he more than willingly shared with those near and dear to him. He especially loved to spend time with his cherished family. Robert's deep sense of kindness and integrity and his generous and gentle spirit were appreciated by all who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of 4D and 4B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the wonderful staff at Hospice Cape Breton during his short presence there.

Visitation and service will take place at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St, Sydney Mines, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023
