Ronald Collins Obituary

In the quiet, tender hours of August 23, 2025, our beloved Ronald Collins peacefully left this world and entered eternal rest, surrounded by love.

Born in Toronto, ON, on July 4, 1956, Ronald was the son of the late Annie Mae (MacDonald) and John Willis Collins. Ronald was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Affectionately known as Ronnie, he grew up on Ocean Street, Sydney Mines, where he shared countless memories with his siblings and family.

Ron worked for many years at the North Sydney fish plant, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Beyond his work, he gave back to the community through volunteering with Kiwanis, the Canadian Legion—where he served as president for several years—and as a member of the Northside Hospital Foundation. On Sunday mornings, you could often find him at the Legion breakfast program, volunteering with a big smile and plenty of laughter.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife of over 25 years, Linda (MacPherson). Together they built a life filled with love, care, and true friendship—partners in every sense.

He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings: Patricia MacLeod, Mary (Mick) Gracie, and brother John Collins. Ronald was a cherished uncle to Melissa and Heather Gracie, and Stephanie MacLeod, and a proud great-uncle to seven great-nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by the MacPherson family, including dear sisters- and brothers-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews he spoke of so fondly.

In his free time, Ronald enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—playing darts and cards, and especially spending his evenings watching hockey and wrestling. He was quick-witted, with a laugh that could fill a room. His humor and warmth brought light to everyone around him. His down-to-earth nature made him easy to love and impossible to forget. Ronald carried himself with quiet strength, resilience, and a kind heart.

Ron was predeceased by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. MacPherson; his brother-in-law, Andy MacPherson; and his niece, Alesha MacLeod. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, family, and community spirit.

A celebration of Ronnie’s life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines, at 1:30 PM. All are welcome to come and say goodbye to a wonderful man. In his memory, the family asks that you share a laugh, lend a hand, or volunteer in your community—just as Ronnie would have.

"There is no death. Only a change of worlds."
