Rose Jessome Obituary

Margaret Rose (Harrietha) Jessome, 91
Bras d’Or

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of our treasured mother, nanny, sister, aunt, and friend, Rose Jessome, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at the age of 91. Rose passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at home.
Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie Bridget (Marsh) Harrietha. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d’Or.

After marrying the love of her life, Sandy, they created a life focused on family. As a homemaker, a wife, and a mother, she was strong, capable, and tireless. Always supportive, encouraging, wise, and kind, she was so proud of the family she kept. Rose had very strong faith in God and was devoted to the Catholic Church. She was a charitable woman with countless hours spent volunteering as a member of the CWL in Bras d’Or, a canvasser for the Fall Fair and the Cancer Society, and at the Point Aconi Community Centre. While raising her family, she worked hard to earn her Home Sewing Certificate, earning the accolades of the student who demonstrated the Most Progress. With her refined skills, she created many outfits for her children and grandchildren on her cherished Singer sewing machine. Always skilled with her hands, she kept herself busy baking rolls, making desserts, and knitting beautiful slippers and dishcloths. She was a talent and a beauty, always graceful, until God called her home.

Rose hosted weekly Sunday dinners at her home, establishing a cherished tradition that the family still carries on.  She was happy to live the last number of years with her daughters and enjoyed her weekly visits from her family. As the family’s matriarch, she was the glue that held everything together. Her advice and guidance were strongly valued, and her love and support were unconditional. Happiest surrounded by her family, Mom enjoyed many family celebrations, card games, church gatherings, and birthdays “down the road” competing for the most X’s and O’s. Mom maintained her great sense of humor and sharp wit, making her the reigning family champion of the Game Show Network.

Rose is survived by her son Eric (Patsy), and daughters, Linda MacNeil (Dave), Carla Carmichael (Donny), Rosemary Murrin, and son-in-law Lloyd Hall. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cliff (Leah), Kerri, Steven (Judy), Tanya, Sandy (Kyla), Eddy (Ann), Candace, Lloyd (Jennifer), Callista (Andrew), Graham (Ashley), Andrew (Emily), Nick, Erin and Lyndon; her 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Melvin (Caroline), Barry (Lorraine), and Joe, and sisters, Lois (Johnny), and Ann (Billy); sister-in-law Sylvia; and brother-in-law Barry (Dolores) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her husband, Sandy; son, Eddy; daughter, Sheila; sons-in-law, Mike Murrin and George MacNeil; granddaughter, Shara Leigh MacNeil. her brothers, Bill (Pat), Dan, Earl (Cecilia), and her Jessome in-laws.

The family would like to thank Dr. Poulos for his years of quality care and Sarah for her compassion and professionalism.
