It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandra (Edwardson) MacKinnon, age 51, on Friday, August 29, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Port Credit, Ontario, Sandy made her home in Neil’s Harbour, Nova Scotia, for the past four years, where she embraced the beauty of Cape Breton and the warmth of the community.
A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished nana, sister, and friend, Sandy was the heart of her family. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering love inspired everyone who knew her. She faced every challenge with courage and a smile, never letting hardship dim her spirit. She had a passion for music—especially Bon Jovi—and enjoyed the simple joys of bingo nights.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her kindness, and the way she could light up a room. Sandy is survived by her beloved husband, Nathan; her children, Tyler (Shavonne) and Alycia (Damien); her granddaughter, Laurel; her brother, Richard; and many extended family members and friends who will carry her memory forward.
Sandy was predeceased by her mother, Lorraine; her father, Jack; and her sister, Debbie. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Sandy throughout her journey.
A celebration of her life will be held in Ingonish, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Peter’s Church, with visitation from 12–1 p.m. and a Funeral Mass beginning at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Merkel Cell Carcinoma Cancer Research.
