It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Shawn Vincent Donovan, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Born on May 24, 1972, in Sydney Mines to Maisie and Michael Donovan, Shawn, lovingly known as “Poppy Shawn,” grew up in the Millville community where he formed many lifelong friendships. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, Natalie and Benjamin, who were truly the light of his life, any event they had you could find poppy Shawn tagging along.
Shawn spent many years working as an ERA and Marine Engineer aboard numerous vessels and deeply loved his time on the water. Throughout his career he travelled to many places and worked on a wide range of ships, experiences he took great pride in. His years on the water gave him countless stories and friendships that he carried with him throughout his life. Anyone who knew Shawn knew of his passion for engines and anything mechanical. Many evenings of his early years were spent in his garage working on projects, sharing laughs, and enjoying the company of his lifelong friends who were more like brothers. Later in life Lenny’s garage, along with their weekly pool nights, became Shawn’s sacred place. You would rarely find Shawn anywhere without his best friend, Lenny.
Shawn had a deep love for animals and always enjoyed having them around, especially adored his late cat, Tiger, who spent a wonderful 21 years by his side. He also shared a special bond with his daughter Morgan’s dog, Ella, who was a frequent passenger on his drives and a companion he always enjoyed having by his side.
Shawn was known for his quick wit, his big heart, and his loyalty to those he loved. He valued friendship, family gatherings, and the simple moments spent with the people closest to him. Whether it was lending a hand, sharing a story, or heading out for one of his daily drives, you would never catch Shawn without his triple- triple.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving mother, Maisie Donovan-Weeks; his daughters, Morgan (Matthew Morrison); Jessica LeRoy; his grandchildren, Natalie and Benjamin Morrison; his siblings, Ricky (Leanne Donovan), Robbie (Jean Donovan), and Jeannie (Gordon Marsh); as well as many nieces and nephews. Shawn had a close family and treasured the time spent with them.
Shawn was predeceased by his father, Michael Donovan, and his stepfather, Bob Weeks.
A private visitation will be held for the family. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 19th at 4:00 p.m. at JM Jobes Funeral Home. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held from 5:30–8:00 p.m. at the Millville Community Hall. All who knew and loved Shawn are welcome to attend.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to EHS and the first responders for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shawn’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
