It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheila Joan (Boutilier) MacInnis of Sydney Mines on May 17, 2026, at Maple Hill Manor.
Born on March 17, 1938, Sheila was the eldest daughter of the late John Scott Boutilier and Margaret Vera (Roper) Boutilier. Sheila dedicated many years of her life to teaching after attending Nova Scotia Teachers College. She especially loved teaching art classes, allowing her to share her creativity with her students. She had a lifelong passion for drawing and painting and rarely missed a day writing in her diary.
Sheila also loved jewelry, doing her makeup, and always took pride in looking her best.
Some of Sheila’s favourite memories were made spending summers at the family cottage in Groves Point. Later in life, she and her beloved Donnie took up camping at St. Ann's Campground, where they formed many lifelong friendships and shared countless happy times over the years. Together, they also enjoyed spending their weekends visiting local yard sales and flea markets in search of little treasures.
Sheila truly cherished time spent with her three grandchildren, and she had a special love for animals, especially her beloved bulldogs Oliver, Winston, and Fergus, who brought her so much joy over the years.
Sheila is survived by her loving son, Troy; cherished grandchildren, Jorja, Jax, and Jovi, whom she was so proud of; her sisters, Ethel Thorn, Dolores (Dave) Howley, and VeraLynn (Clarence) Hill; sisters-in-law Nancy and Linda MacInnis; her longtime teacher friend, Eileen Romeo; as well as many extended family members who will miss her dearly.
Besides her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her cherished husband, Donald (Donnie) MacInnis; brothers-in-law Stewart Thorn, Joseph MacInnis, Ian MacInnis, Greg MacInnis, and David MacInnis; and her sister-in-law, Georgina Nichol.
Our family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Michel McKeough and Louise for their care and kindness over the years, as well as the staff at Maple Hill Manor, who made Sheila feel so loved, comfortable, and at home during her time there.
Honouring Sheila’s wishes, no visitation will be held. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home.
