Shirley Georgina (Edmunds) Clarkson
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, loving wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Shirley Clarkson, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Halifax on Dec. 2, 1943, and born again on May 13, 1977 she was the daughter of the late Captain Thomas Edmunds and Clarissa “Classy” (Leamon) Edmunds. Shirley was a talented and creative entrepreneur who owned and operated “Shirley’s Sewing Room” for over 20 years. She was a member of Gospel Hall in Sydney Mines, where she celebrated her faith with her many friends who became family.
She took great pride in her cooking and baking abilities and loved nothing more than to gather and share meals with family & friends. Her favorite pastimes included spending time at her trailer, swimming, knitting, word puzzles, and, for the last several years, having a social media presence. We will all miss her tremendous sense of humor and quick wit. She loved animals and always had treats for Marlie & Lightning.
Shirley is survived by her children, Karen (Stacey) Ramsey, Carolyn (Neil) Mitchell, Daniel (Barbara Ann) Clarkson, Shirley (Wayne) Forrest, and Trevor Clarkson. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren Fawn, Kati Lynn, Tamara (Ricky), Christopher, Matthew (Katie), Klarissa (Chris), Felicity, Josh (Nancy), Kristen (Ryan), Mikayla, T.J., Andrea and great-grandchildren Teagan, Ricky, Cole, Jack and Luke who she loved dearly. Her brothers John, Tom (Regeana) and Terry Edmunds. Sisters: Linda (John) Miles, Diane (Gary) Edmunds and many nieces and nephews. She treasured the friendships she had with Kay Hayes, Elaine MacQueen, Sharon Blackie & Tracy Fraser, who she adored.
Besides her loving parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tommy Clarkson, parent-in-laws Daniel & Annie (Bernon) Clarkson, sister, Ruth (Harold) MacLean, brother Ron (Dawn) Edmunds, and in-laws Ian & Diane MacDonald.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Dr. MacCormick, Dr. Brown, Dr. Brake, Dr. Morrison, and the staff of 4 West at the Northside General Hospital. The visits, support, and care she received from the staff of Home Care & VON were something she looked forward to daily.
Visitation for Shirley Clarkson will be held on Friday, June 23rd, at the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, from 1-3 p.m. A funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow the visitation, with Joe Bernon and David Swan officiating. The burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Everyone is invited to Gospel Hall (access via basement), Yorke St, Sydney Mines, following the burial for refreshments.
Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation or charity of choice.
