Obituary

TOBIN (Campbell), Shirley

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Shirley Isadore Tobin, on August 15, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mom was born in Sydney Mines on May 27, 1938, to the late Angus and Annie (Cantwell) Campbell. She was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North Sydney.

Mom worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Northside General Hospital then Harbour View Hospital until her retirement. Although she attended to the needs of all her patients, her pediatric patients held a special place in her heart. Her compassion towards others extended far beyond her clinical duties as she provided loving and professional care for her parents and other family members in their time of need. Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed compiling the family genealogy, as well as volunteering for the Liberal Party of Canada.

Left to mourn are her sons Fred (Wendy) and Vincent (Ave), grandchildren Sean (Alicia), Ashley (Andre) MacDougall, and Courtney Tobin. She was a loving and devoted great-grandmother to Camden and Wyatt MacDougall, and Charlotte Tobin.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Earl Campbell, his wife, Betty, and granddaughter Chelsea Tobin.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care Shirley received from Dr. Dawn Brown and staff and Dr. Arlene Kelly-Wiggins. We are so thankful to the staff at both the Richmond Villa and Northside Community Guest Home for their compassion and support to Mom. Special thanks to the homecare workers of Northside Homemakers Service Society for assisting us in Mom’s care at home as well as the Adult Day Program at Harbourview Hospital.

At Mom’s request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 11 am, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating, followed by a reception at the North Sydney Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Sydney Mines Food Bank, where Mom volunteered for many years. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
