Shona Irene Donato

It is with profound sadness that we the family regret to announce the sudden passing of our dear mother Shona Irene Donato at the age of 61 on March 17th 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family .She was born on July 25th 1963 to Gertrude and Willard Bonnar.

  To know Ma, was to love Ma! She touched a lot of lives during her 61 years on this earth. She had been there for everyone she came across. Kids always spent a special place in her heart right back to her days spent at Jubilee School at the breakfast program ,with her bestie Jack Humphries .

  Shona served 13 years in the Canadian Armed Forces in Transport. She loved her job but what she loved most was being able to transport the military kids to school every morning. Her love for the kids made a lasting impression on them all.

  She is survived by her mama Gertrude Bonnar(her sidekick) ,her children Jodi, Alecia(Bradley),Courtney(Kent),Nic(Jessica),her grandchildren Larissa, Leora, Layla-Lee, Luke Jr. ,Taytum ,Carter ,Maison, Morgan, Ryan, Anthony and Peyton.

  She is also survived by her siblings Debbie(Oscar),Les(Sandra),Annabelle(Ken),Jimmy(Keira), her in-laws and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Nick Donato, her beautiful baby boy Timothy Ryan, her Da Willard James Bonnar (Buller) and her sister Shirley Russell and also her fur baby of 17 years Jose.

  We would love to send a special thanks to the EHS staff at Cape Breton Regional, the Palliative Care Staff and especially Dr. Thana who was the most caring Dr. who also took care of our dad.

Cremation has taken place, and as per her request, there will be no services conducted.
