(Terry) MacLean Obituary

We, the family, announce with deep love and sadness the passing of our brother, Patrick Terrance (Terry) MacLean, in February 2026 age 65.

Born in Sydney Mines on September 30, 1960, Terry was the son of the late John Benedict (Bennie) and Annie Catherine (Sister) MacLean.

He began his quest for knowledge after high school as a graduate of NSCC - Institute of Technology Campus, earning a Mini/Micro Computer Specialist Diploma, and continued on to St. Mary’s University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.

His career took him away from his beloved Cape Breton to Halifax, where he accepted a position with Dalhousie University Information Technology Services as a Client Services Technician and also served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Dalhousie University, teaching Computer Applications. He was an active union member of NSGEU Local 77 until his retirement in 2025. Terry was a passionate and proud educator. His compassion and commitment to the students and staff he worked with over the years was a source of pride for his family.

Terry completed a Christopher Course, was a Minister of the Word at St. Pius X Parish, and was a Cursillista, having completed a Catholic Cursillo. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica on Spring Garden Road in Halifax, where he regularly attended Mass.

Terry was also a well-known musician in the Halifax area, with an exceptional voice that won him a Solar Audio & Recording Studio contest in the 1980s, producing a full-length audio/video presentation. He was also featured during Mabou Ceilidh Days and Pictou County charity events on multiple occasions.

A tireless volunteer, he freely shared his talents, performing for many community events across the province, including a special devotion to church events and services. Terry was a well-known performer enjoyed by many at the NSCC - Institute of Technology Lunch Time Ceilidhs hosted by Neil MacNeil of the Carpentry Program.

Terry had an avid interest in Scottish heritage in all its forms—music, language, genealogy, culture, and history. He freely shared this knowledge, gleaned from years of research, with any who inquired. For many summers, he was a proud resident of Washabuck, Cape Breton.

Terry is survived by his brothers, Ben (Carmie), Neil (Gale), Lauchie (Sharon), Peter, Shane (Barb), Pius (Caroline), and Paul (Caroline) MacLean; sisters, Sharon MacLean, Debbie MacDougall, and Adele (Seamus) Britton; brothers-in-law, Craig Reid, Earl McInnis, Greg Young, and Emmanuel Taylor; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and aunts with whom he enjoyed maintaining connections.

Besides his parents, Terry was predeceased by his brother, Francis; sisters, Jackie Reid, Sheila McInnis, Betty Young, and Helen Taylor; sister-in-law, Marlene MacLean; brother-in-law, Allan MacDougall; and nieces, Emma Taylor and Sarah MacLean.

Cremation has taken place.
