Thelma MacLeod Obituary

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Thelma MacLeod, on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. She was born in Neil's Harbour on October 1, 1936, to Tim and Martha Rideout.

Mom touched the lives of many, and her memory will live on in those who knew and loved her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a gift that not all people have, and that was to make people laugh. Her heart was filled with love, kindness, and strength like we have never seen before.

Mom's greatest accomplishments in life were her children.  She loved every moment spent with each and every one of them.  She enjoyed every phone call she received and her drives around the Cabot Trail. Mom didn't need much to make her happy, besides the love of her children.

Mom made friends wherever she went, and loved when they would come visit. She had her sister and best friend Lorraine by her side each and every day, Clyburn in for his coffee, Marcella and Kim for their quick chats, cookies from Jane because we all knew Mom had a sweet tooth, and she could always count on Agnes for some Lobster.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband Wilfred MacLeod, parents Tim and Martha Rideout, son Teddy MacDonald, daughter Yvonne Fitzgerald, two sons in infancy, Joseph and Jeffrey, brothers Herman Rideout and Eric Rideout, and the father of her children, Joseph MacDonald.

Thelma is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Brenda) MacDonald, Conrad (Raegan) MacDonald, and Sister Lorraine Rideout.  Grandchildren Allisha, Shavonne, Ashley, Gregory, Kevin, Miranda, Brianna, Zander and Grayson.  Great Grandchildren Madison, Alexa, Macy, Carson, Eliza, Olivia, Elsie, Adeline, Connor, MacKenzie, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Staff of Buchanan Memorial Health Centre for the compassion, empathy, and kindness they showed to Mom during her brief illness.  Also, to the Home Care staff for all the love and support you all showed Mom over the past few years.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15th, at 1 pm at St Andrew's Anglican Church, Neil’s Harbour. A Luncheon and burial service will follow.

A loving Nature, A heart of gold, the very best mother this world could hold.

Never selfish, always kind, these are the memories you left behind.

A silent thought, A quiet prayer, for a special mother, In God's care.
