We, the children of Theresa (Dawe) Turbide—affectionately known to many as Teasie—are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully at home on January 7, 2026.
Born in Florence, Nova Scotia, on June 29, Theresa was the daughter of Freeman and Ethel (Murphy) Dawe. In keeping with Mom’s lifelong belief that “it’s nobody’s business how old I am,” her year of birth will remain her own.
Young at heart in every sense, Mom carried herself with confidence and flair—whether through her style, her spirit, or behind the wheel of her beloved sports cars. In her earlier years, she worked at the local fish plant before dedicating herself fully to raising her children. While many look forward to slowing down at retirement age, Mom chose a different path, heading west to Alberta to pursue union work, which she proudly continued into her early seventies. Even this past summer, she could still be found mowing her large yard—never one to shy away from hard work or obstacles.
Theresa married the love of her life, Ronald “Butch” Turbide, and together they made their home in Alder Point. Her strength and resilience were truly tested when she tragically lost Butch in her late twenties, leaving her to raise and care for their four children on her own—a role she fulfilled with unwavering determination and love.
She leaves behind her children: Ron Turbide (Marie), Kevin Turbide (Carm), Michelle Turbide, Todd Turbide, and Greg Moore (Danielle). She was a proud grandmother to Angie, Shania, Ryan, Nickolas, Kali, Cameron, Hannah, Dylan, Ceili, and Tara; and a cherished great-grandmother to London, Wesley, Kenzie, Eden, Hunter, and Caleb. Also left to mourn is her companion / friend Billy O’Connell.
Theresa is also survived by her brothers, Hector Dawe and Jackie Dawe (Sally), her sister Cavelle MacNeil, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter Terra; her parents; her in-laws Sollie and Marg Turbide; her former partner Michael Moore and his mother Rodena; her brother Gerald Dawe; and her sisters Irene Smith, Gertrude MacPherson, Nellie Reashore and Muriel Leblanc.
Our family extends our deepest gratitude to the staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital (ICMH). Words cannot fully express how thankful we are for the compassion, care, and respect Mom received when she turned to you for answers. Though the news was not what any of us hoped for, she felt heard and found comfort in finally understanding. A special thank you as well to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Team and the VON nurses. Julia and Lyndsey, you appeared during Mom’s darkest days and brought light and comfort that we will forever cherish.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, with a service to be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the IWK Foundation.
