Thomas Vincent Serroul
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Vince passed on Sept 17, 2024, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Vince was born in Bras d’Or on January 13, 1955. He was the son of the late Russell and Josephine (Carey) Serroul.
Vince was an electrician by trade and worked for Devco for 21 years at the Prince Colliery. He received the Medal of Bravery as a Draggerman in one of the rescue teams at the Westray Mine Disaster on May 9, 1992. Later, when the mine closed, he worked as an electrician in Fort McMurray and then as a sales person at Home Hardware in North Sydney.
Vince loved to fish, golf, play hockey, read, draw, do crossword puzzles, and swim. He really did love all the good things life had to offer. He loved going for long walks with his dog Maggie and telling stories with his sister-in-law Gale of the days going to Black Brook.
In the last couple of years, he took many road trips with his sisters Jeanette, Cecila, and Judy, and his brother Butch. Enjoying the beautiful sights of Cape Breton and, of course, a good meal at the end of the adventure.
He and his sister Ellie enjoyed cooking and telling stories about the many cooking lessons they got from their mom, especially the rabbit pie lesson and Ellie’s fruit tray on Tuesdays.
Vince was also a Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jay Fan. Always hopeful each season that one would win the Stanley Cup and the other would win the playoffs. Vince appreciated the many visits from his wonderful lifetime friends, even if they weren’t Toronto fans.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice Cape Breton and the Northside Community Guest Home for the care they gave Vince , myself and the rest of our family.
Vince is greatly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Regena (Devoe). We enjoyed many road trips, dances, and walks. He is survived by his sisters, Cecilia (Joey) McNeil, Judy (Peter) Astephen, Jeanette (Brian) Forrest, Eleanor Serroul, and Shawn Finney, and his brother Butch (Loretta) Serroul. Also, he is sadly missed by sister-in-law Gale Devoe, brothers-in-law Fred (Rita) and Alex (Barb), and many nieces and nephews he loved very much.
In addition to his parents, Vince is predeceased by his brothers, Walter, Russie, and Sonnie; Sisters Carol-Ann, Theresa, Mary, and Sandy; his mother and father-in-law, Helene and Russell Devoe; and his brother-in-law, Wilbert Devoe.
Cremation has taken place. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Alaribe Chinoso officiating. A reception will follow in Bras d’Or Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or a Charity of your choice.
