Reiley, Gordon Truman
Mill Creek
Jan. 3, 1938 - June 28, 2023 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Truman Reiley, a loving husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, on June 28, 2023, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Truman was a jack of all trades, working in various occupations for over 25 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, played darts, followed the blue jays, and enjoyed telling great stories to anyone willing to listen. Truman shared his love of music by entertaining at the boardwalk, in nursing homes, and at many family parties. His family will forever enjoy his songs through the CD’s he recorded. We will "walk through this world' with our treasured memories.
He was a man of great wit; one never knew what he was going to say but was guaranteed a good chuckle. He brought great joy even in his time of illness.
Truman is survived by the love of his life, Theresa (Johnston); two sons, Ewan (Dolores) and Tim (Lisa); son-in-law Patrick McMerty; 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Justin), Ashley (Taehyun), Mason (Jenna), Justin (Jenn) and Colton, four great-grandchildren Leona, Landon, Charlotte, and Mirae. Truman loved his family. He enjoyed visiting for birthdays, having long telephone conversations, cooking special meals, and hearing about their accomplishment with great pride.
Truman is also survived by three sisters, Cora (Stanley) Jessome, Gordena (Neil) MacLeod, and Darlene Hawley, and brother John (Ann-Marie), and many special nieces and nephews. He was a brother that others would wish to have, a pillar of support for the family.
Truman was predeceased by his daughter, Arthene McMerty, Parents Gordon and Idella Reiley; Father and Mother-In-Law, Joseph and Elizabeth Johnston; Brother-in-Law, Peter MacKinnon.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospitals, Cancer Centre, and especially Doctor Bill MacDonald, who cared for Truman over the years.
