Vera MacMullin Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Vera Mae MacMullin, 89 of Greenhill, Florence, announce her passing on March 31, 2025.
Mom will be remembered by her family and friends for the loving wife, mother and grandmother that she was.  She was the cornerstone of our family and her strength, resilience and faith were what made her so special.
Mom cherished Sunday brunch, family gatherings, week long visits, shopping trips to Halifax, impromptu drives around the trail in the Fall to see the bold and beautiful colors pop and card games with her friends at the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club.  Mom loved every opportunity to laugh and she kept us on our toes with her quick wit!  We will miss her dearly.

Prior to Dad’s passing, weekend trips to the cabin in Iona were the pot of gold at the end of a busy week.  Everyone was welcome!  Mom & Dad enjoyed spending time with extended family and whoever dropped by.  Days were spent at the beach and evenings were for campfires, with late night foil packs, guitar playing, singing and tapping of feet.

Mom taught at Bras d’Or Elementary in Grade 4 for most of her 36 years teaching.  Many stories were shared about punctuality and running late!  She enjoyed learning about her students and seeing them excel later in life.  There are not too many names that she didn’t remember and know who their “Mom” or “Dad” was.

Mom also enjoyed sports, her beloved Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leaf’s!

Mom was preceded by her loving husband of 51 years, John David as well as her parents, Michael & Gladys Walker, brothers Joseph, Cyril, and Wendell; and sister Genevieve Howley.

Left to mourn this tremendous loss are son Kim (Marlene); daughters Lillian (David) Shaw, Valerie (Geoff) Adair, Paulette and LeeAnn (Errol) Fraser.  Grandchildren Mitchell, Aaron (Halle), Delana, Alexx, Jonathan, Bethany (Brett), Haley (Dan), and Chloe her longtime feline companion.  Sister Greta (Mike) Prokopchuk and sisters-in-law, Ave Stoddard, Phyllis MacMullin and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Bryce and Lynn Stubbert.  The kindness that you’ve shown to Mom, and all of us, over the years, will never be forgotten.
Thank you to Dr. Stephanie Langley for your compassion and care for Mom.  She was grateful to have you.
Thank you to Dr. Eugene Ignacio and the nurses on 5 East at the Northside General for your care during Mom’s stay in the hospital.
Though you are no longer with us in this physical world, your impact on our lives and the love and strength you shared, will be felt in our hearts forever.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 14th, 2025, at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, North Sydney. Following the service, the family invites everyone to attend a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 in North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Vera’s name to the Northside Hospital Foundation.
