Vernon A Coakley
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Vernon A. Coakley on Oct 6, 2023, at the age of 93, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Florence, Dad was the son of Nellie and Thomas Coakley.
Delivering milk, a career that spanned over 45 years, Dad earned the utmost respect from his customers and peers. A self-taught man, he played many musical instruments, with the guitar being his favorite.
He was always happiest when he was outdoors, taking great pride in caring for his home and property.
Dad is survived by his children. Leonard (Paula), Diane (Jim) Brown, Colleen (Fred) Mudie, David (Donalda), Darrell (Denise), and Eric (Kelly). Grandchildren: Leonard, Kathryn, Bethany, Evan, Eric, Ryan, Jessie, Paige, Chrissy, Colby, and Erin. 14 great-grandchildren. Brother Steve, sister Bernadette.
Dad was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Anna (Jesty), and 8 of his siblings.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home. A funeral Mass to celebrate Dad’s life will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church Bras d’Or with Father Nonso officiating. A reception will follow at Bras d’Or Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sydney Mines Food Bank. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
