Vincent Legatto Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Vincent (Vinnie) Henry Legatto, who left this world peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. Vinnie was born in Sydney Mines on November 29, 1933, to Jimmy and Carmella Legatto. He lived in Sydney Mines most of his life and, most recently, in Port Hawkesbury. Vinnie was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose presence brought warmth, music, and love to everyone who was fortunate to have known him.

Vinnie was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Beanie Legatto, who passed away on April 8, 2025. Vinnie built a life centered on dedication to his family and commitment to doing things the right way. In his earlier years, he proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve, embracing the values of discipline, honor, and service. He later drove trucks for many years, managing numerous contracts and earning a reputation for reliability, hard work, and integrity. A devoted Catholic, Vincent's faith was the foundation of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, continually giving back through acts of service, prayer, and fellowship. He found joy in life’s simple and most meaningful moments. One of his greatest passions was playing guitar and singing alongside his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Paula, filling every room with music, laughter, and love. He especially enjoyed going to his trailer in Christmas Island, spending countless hours with his family, singing around the campfire, sharing stories, and making memories that will live on forever. He also enjoyed his time spent around Norma and Harry's pool, camping trips with Carmella and Paul, and spending time in Arlene and Brian's garage. Vinnie loved the outdoors and cherished fishing trips with his son, John, enjoying the peaceful moments and conversations shared between father and son. He could always be found ready for a good game of cards, bringing fun and friendly rivalry to any gathering. His loyal little dog, Broc, was never far from his side and brought him immense comfort and companionship.

Vinnie is survived by his devoted family: son John (Paula), and three daughters, Norma (Harry), Arlene (Brian), and Carmella (Paul). Vinnie was a proud grandfather to Julia (Corey), Kayla (DJ), Johnnah (Tim), Taylor (Matt), Mitchel, Vanessa (Brad), Devan (Kirsten), Katrina (Daniel), and Karly (Jake), each of whom brought him tremendous joy. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Jax, Hope, Ava, Amaya, Max, Maeve, and Isla, loving each of them dearly and celebrating every moment he spent with them. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Dustin, Ryan, and Mark, and step–great-grandchildren, Maddie, Ben, Paisley, and Matias. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Rogers. Vinnie was predeceased by his parents, Jimmy and Carmella; brothers, Frank, Joseph, and Johnny; and sisters, Antoinette, Josephine, and Bonnie.

Vincent will be forever remembered for his faith, music, his love of family, stories, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him. His memory will continue to be a guiding light, reminding us always of the importance of loyalty, family, laughter, and the time we spend together.

The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Giorno, Dr. Alex Wawer, and Dr. Eugene Ignacio; the Fifth Floor Nursing Staff at Northside General Hospital, who provided exceptional care to Dad—especially Joanne Dupont, with whom he developed a caring relationship; the staff of the Fourth Floor, who provided respectful and professional care during Dad's last few days; and family and friends who provided support and care, especially Rita Dipersio and Diana Fiander.
