It is with heavy hearts we, the family of James Wayne Young, wish to announce his sudden passing on Saturday, June 18th, 2022.

Wayne was born in North Sydney to the late William James & Mary Freda (Robinson) Young. He was a long-time employee of Canada Post until his retirement.

When Wayne was in his teens when he met the love of his life, Christine (aka. Penny) Miles. Wayne and Penny built a life for themselves in Sydney Mines, where they raised their daughter, Wanda and son, Jason. Wayne held various volunteer positions over the years, including, but not limited to the Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department, where he devoted 30+ years of his life including time as an Engine Captain, all the way to Deputy Chief.  Wayne was also the President of the Sydney Mines Firemen’s Club, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, as well as the Pensioners Club. Wayne was an avid fly fisherman, photographer, dabbled with computers and electronics, love guitar and jamming with anyone willing to sit with him.

Left to mourn are his wife of 48 years, Christine, daughter, Wanda (Troy) Ferneyhough, son, Jason (Amber), Brother, Kirk, grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Sasha & River.  His beloved dog, Miyagi, will also miss his owner. There are aunts, nieces, grand nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends, too numerous to list, that will all miss Wayne.

 Wayne was predeceased by his parents, William James & Mary Freda.

The family wishes to thank Dr. M. McKeough, Dr. Yeung, all the nurses and staff of the Northside Renal Dialysis unit, as well as the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital ER Nurses and Staff, as well as the 4W & 5E nurses and staff of the Northside General.

Visitation for the late Wayne Young will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will take place Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
