Wilfred Earl Jessome
The family of Wilfred Earl Jessome is saddened to announce his passing on March 17, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was 71 years of age.
Wilfred will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Georgena, whom he adored, by his son Michael (Corinne), his daughter Lora, his brother Daniel (Cris), his sisters, Ester (Duke) Dolhanty, Janice McInnis, Denise (Wayne) Buffett, and Ella (Auley) Carey, and by his three grandchildren, Bridgette, Brittanni, and Lucas. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Lenora, and his numerous relatives and friends.
Wilfred was predeceased by his mother and father, Elias and Ester Jessome, by his infant son, Wilfred, by his older brothers, Emerson and Robert Jessome, and by his brother-in-law, Jackie McInnis.
Throughout his life, Wilfred had many interests, developed many talents, and was fortunate to work at trades that mattered to him. As a young man, he first worked as a carpenter with his father and then learned the fishing trade from his father-in-law, George Bungay. By his early thirties, Wilfred captained his own boat, the Wolverine, a 45-foot seiner, which he sold just before the moratorium in 1992. After fishing, he returned to carpentry and helped build homes all over Cape Breton. Wilfred knew everything there was about building a house and was especially skilled at detailed work, such as cabinetry. His last job was as a heavy equipment operator at Paul Hashem Scrapyard in Sydney. During his lifetime, Wilfred was an avid hunter and angler and used these hobbies to explore Cape Breton Island. He loved gardening, reading, and learning about history. He was also a devoted fan of boxing and curling. During his retirement, Wilfred continued to develop his talents for gardening and took great pleasure in sharing what he grew with his family and friends.
There will be no visitation or service for Wilfred at this time, a celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Words of condolence and comfort can be forwarded to www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
