It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, William (Bill) Allen MacPherson Sr., who passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the age of 84, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Little Bras d’Or on April 29, 1941, Bill was the son of the late George and Evelyn (King) MacPherson.
Bill was a proud member of the Carpenters’ Union, Local 27, and spent many years working on projects across Canada before retiring home to Cape Breton. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting and fishing with his good friend Bobby Gibbons, and sharing morning coffee with friends at Robins through the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club.
Bill is survived by his children: Billy (Irene), Martin (Sofia), George (Sasha), Brenda, and Sandra (Gordon). He was a loving grandfather to Will (Deanna), Craig, Lindsay, Krystal, Karl, Sierra, Amanda (Jamie), and Rachel (Joe), and a cherished great-grandfather to William, Easton, Nevaeh, Levi, Madison, and Zienna.
Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gertie, his brothers Chester and Martin, and his companion, Irene Smith.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassionate care, as well as to his dear friends Peter Burns and Chubb Forrest for their support.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 11–12 at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines. A funeral service, officiated by Deacon David Lewis, will follow at 12 p.m. A reception will take place following the service at the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club, Fraser Avenue, Sydney Mines, at 1 p.m. All who knew and loved Bill are warmly invited to attend.
