William Brian "Bill" McInnis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Brian "Bill" McInnis, age 79, on June 18, 2026, at the Northside General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney Mines, on November 21, 1946, Bill was the son of the late Joseph and Frances Adeline (Mouland) McInnis.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Patricia Fay (Clark) McInnis, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Cheryl Wannamaker (Dean), and his son, William Paul McInnis (Stephanie). Bill took great pride in his grandchildren, Hannah, William, Emma, Ella, and Ava, who brought him endless joy and happiness.

Bill’s unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, Patricia, was a true testament to the depth of his love. For the past eight years, he faithfully visited her every day at the Northside Guest Home, offering companionship, comfort, and affection. Through every season and circumstance, his steadfast presence reflected the enduring bond they shared and the remarkable commitment that defined their life together.

Bill enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career. He worked as an engineer with Devco and spent time as a train conductor in Thompson, Manitoba. Through his work and throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others.

A man of many interests, Bill found pleasure in the simple joys of life. He loved bird watching, especially keeping an eye out for chickadees and hummingbirds. He was an avid coin collector, enjoyed gardening and bowling, and was a talented piano player who brought music and warmth to family gatherings.

Faith played an important role in Bill’s life. He was an active participant at the former Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, where he sang in the church choir and generously volunteered his time helping to maintain the church building. His dedication and service were appreciated by many within the congregation.

Bill is also survived by his brothers, Earl Martin of Bras d'Or and Robert Jacob of Bras d'Or.

 Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Michael George of Barrie, Ontario, and Francis Joseph of North Sydney, and by his sisters, Wilma Lynette and Bernice Arlene.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. McCarville, Dr Wawer and the staff of 4 West at Northside General Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion, and support shown to Bill throughout his illness.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a celebration of his life directly following at 3pm at JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines Interment will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the North Sydney Calvary Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
