William “Billy” Penny Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Billy” Francis Penny, age 62, of Sydney Mines, on April 29, 2026.

Born into a loving family, Billy was the cherished son of George and Alexis (MacDougall) Penny. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: George; Nancy (Heck) MacKinnon; Barbie; Paul (Ann Marie); and Denise (John) MacLeod. Billy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom

he adored as his own: Garrett, Alexis (Jeremy), Ashley, Lori (Paul), Danielle (Jeff), Hector (Taylor), Jordan, Jenna, Nancy (Tyler), Justin (Jessica), Michael, Jonny, and Kayla (Ryan), along with many great-nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles who will remember him fondly.

Billy was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Julie Ann (Pyke) Penny, whom he missed dearly. Those who knew him find comfort in the thought that they are now reunited. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, George and Leona (Forrest) Penny, and Alexander and Margaret (Brown) MacDougall.

Billy was a man with a heart of gold. He was known for his kindness, his generosity, and his boundless energy. He would give away his last dollar without hesitation and made sure that everyone he loved knew it– never missing a chance to say “I love you.”

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Billy loved drawing and created beautiful artwork using only pens, a talent admired by many. He enjoyed reading books of all kinds and could often be found rewatching his favorite movies– especially the Avengers. A regular at Robins, Billy treasured his daily visits where he would chat with staff, friends, and anyone willing to listen. He had a gift for storytelling– anyone who knew Billy either heard one of his many stories or has a fond one to share about him.

One of his most treasured memories was a special trip to Montreal with Julie, where they attended Montreal Canadiens game, watched a UFC fight featuring George St. Pierre, and enjoyed a Rihanna concert. He spoke of that trip often, holding it close to his heart.

Billy also shared a special bond with his brother-in-law, Heck, someone he knew he could always call and count on for anything– from rides to appointments to making sure he had what he needed. Their relationship was built on years of friendship, countless memories, and mutual respect. Billy will be deeply missed by Heck and Nancy, who stood by him through it all.

Though Billy had no children of his own, he poured his love into his family, especially his nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.

Billy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His stories, his laughter, and his generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

As per Billy’s wishes, cremation has taken place, there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billy’s memory to the Ally Centre, a place he held near and dear to his heart for all the support and care they provide.
