Yvonne White Obituary

John 14:2–3
“In my Father’s house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you.”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvonne (MacDonald) White on July 24, 2025, at the Veterans Unit of Harbour View Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Florence, Yvonne was the daughter of the late John H. and Lillian MacDonald. She was a devoted member of St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or, where her faith and community were central to her life.

Yvonne was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was employed for 11 years at the Sydney Mines Bargain Store, where she made many lasting friendships.

Summers were spent at her cherished cottage in Lake Ainslie, where she found joy in quiet walks with friends, heartfelt conversations over tea, and the simple beauty of the outdoors.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply:
Her children – David (Cathy), Debbie (Danny MacNeil), Brenda (Gerald Fudge), Darlene (Robert Snow), Clifford, Susan (Gary Hass), and Nicole White (Leon).
Her 14 beloved grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.

Yvonne is also survived by her sister, Lillian, and her brother, Wayne.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Reg White. Their bond was unshakable — they were each other’s light and strength in this life, and that love will continue through their children.

Yvonne was also predeceased by her brothers, Keith, Kenny, Johnny, and Bruce; her sisters, Shirley and Betty; and her special daughter-in-law, Theresa White.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michele McKeough, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Nurse Practitioner Alice Rodgers, the Palliative Care team, and the staff of the Veterans Unit at Harbour View for their care and compassion.

A very special thank you to her beloved granddaughter, our hero, Leah Snow, who went above and beyond in caring for her grandmother — truly one of Mom’s greatest blessings.

And to the nurse who never faltered in her care, always there for Mom day or night — our amazing sister, Darlene — thank you.

Visitation for the late Yvonne White will be held on Sunday, July 27th, from 2–5 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines.

The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at 2 p.m., at St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or, with Rev. Diane Kempt officiating.
Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Yvonne’s memory may be made to St. John’s United Church or a charity of your choice.
