Annabelle Penny, 92
Florence

It is with broken hearts and cherished memories that we, the family, announce the passing of our sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and above all beautiful mother, Annabelle (Laffin) Penny, age 92, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Cove Guest Home, where she resided, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 25, 1926, Annabelle was the oldest daughter of Peter Joseph and Agnes (Tobin) Laffin.  She grew up in Little Bras d’Or.
Mama had a strong catholic faith in God, and an incredible love from her children, which saw her through many challenges in life. She was deeply loved.
Anna’s children were her bursting pride and she loved each one of her nine children unconditionally. She leaves behind to mourn her children; Diane (Armand Forest), North Sydney, Billy (Rose), North Sydney, Joan (Thomas Nicholas), Boularderie, Rebecca (Cyril Reashore), London, ON., Brian (Gloria), Boularderie, Erwin (Bonnie), Little Pond, Alexander (Barb), Sydney Mines, Christopher (Angie), Alder Point, and Timothy (Paula), North Sydney. Mom was blessed with a total of 93 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Peter Laffin in Ontario, and family friends Marcella Alderson and Michelle Rendell.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her one and only love of 59 years, our father Bill Penny. She was also predeceased by son Peter Joseph, daughters Irene Isabelle, and Patricia Ann in infancy, sisters Rebecca Tighe and Margie Gouthro, and her brother Melvin Laffin.
We would like to send special and heartfelt thanks to our Mom’s caregivers at the Cove Guest Home. You will never know how much your exceptional care and compassion meant to Anna and each one of her children. God bless every one of you.
Visitation for Annabelle Penny will take place on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. In lieu of flowers, Donations in Anna’s memory may be made to the Cove Guest Home Foundation in Sydney. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
